Wedding Cakes

wedding cake Wedding CakesWhen you think of a wedding, you think of the invitations, the bridal dress, the favors, and of course the showpiece of the reception, which is the wedding cake.  The unveiling of the wedding cake is always a highly anticipated event, and everyone loves to see a beautifully decorated, multi-tiered cake. The cake is usually quite large;it has to be, to make sure that all the guests can enjoy it.

A wedding cake can be a sponge, lemon, carrot, or a fruit cake.  It all comes down to your personal choice, but there are a few other things to consider.  The type of cake you select will depend on the theme of the wedding.  So if you are having a tropical beach wedding, a traditional wedding cake might not be the best option.  You might choose to go with something a bit more whimsical. In this sort of setting, the wedding decorations can be personalized, with nice tropical sugar flowers and similar decorations.

The wedding cake you selectwill also be influenced by whether the wedding reception will bean indoor, or an outdoor affair.  For an outdoor wedding reception, buttercream icing would not be a good idea.  Buttercream icing is not suited to warm temperature as it can melt away easily.A better selection would be a fondant icing, which does very well outside.

White wedding cakes are traditional, and are decorated with varying designs.  These tend to be very popular, and variations can be made in terms of the fillings used.  Some of the more common fillings for these types of cakes include lemon or chocolate.

Carrot cake is another great wedding cake option.  Combined with a cream cheese filling and frosting, this is a light, scrumptious cake that your guests will definitely enjoy.  It is so good by itself that you can garnish very simply with some fresh flowers, for a most elegant appearance.

Another interesting option is the contemporary cupcake wedding cake.  This creation is trendy, stylish, and delicious.  They are very versatile and can be done in multiple tiers, with each guest getting their ‘own’ wedding cake.  In addition, it eliminates having to pay cut up several wedding cakes, as is traditionally done.

Every bride and groom wants to make sure that their wedding is truly special, and the right wedding cake is a big part of that.  Make sure to review all the choices, and make a decision not only based on preference, but also on the wedding theme and location.
